Back up your files online

I've been alarmed by some clients lack of a back up strategy for their important data. If you are running a business, you should be backing up your financial and customer data daily, and making full backups weekly. I know of at least one client who still makes daily backups onto floppy disk, which is fine in itself, but if the drive breaks, I'm not sure where they could get a replacement now. Take your backups seriously people. At the very least, sign up for a free account with Skydrive, or - Drop Box, and upload your data there. For these types of accounts, I would suggest packing your files up into a Zip, with a password first, if the data is sensitive. Both of these services provide applications for your desktop PC, and your mobile devices, you can get your files wherever you may roam.

Of course, for businesses with large amounts of sensitive data, a more robust approach is necessary - with tape or RAID files servers involved, but most small businesses don't need to get involved in all that.

Please people - start backing up your data properly. Lost data can be catastrophic for any business. Don't let that happen to you.
